Paper and panel proposals are based on written papers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*The Convention has eight regional and three thematic sections (Nationalism, Populism, Migration),&nbsp; as well as a special focus on Russian War in Ukraine*&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Registration fees will be waived for discussants,&nbsp;unless they are making a presentation on a different panel (through an individual proposal, panel proposal, or roundtable proposal).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*All presentations at the Convention are in person only. Baltics, Moldova)<br>Eurasia (Central Asia and China)<br>Russia<br>Turkey and Greece<br>Ukraine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ASN Awards<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best Doctoral Papers<br>Best Book on Nationalism (Joseph Rothschild Prize)<br>Best Article in&nbsp;Nationalities Papers&nbsp;(Huttenbach Prize)<br>Best Documentary Film<br>Nationalities Papers&nbsp;Photo Contest<br>Social Media Awards<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Scope of the Convention&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ASN World Convention, which brings together 750+ scholars from 50+ countries annually, welcomes proposals on a wide range of topics related to nationalism, national identity, ethnicity, indigenous and racialized groups, political memory, gender and migration in regional sections of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and cross-regional sections in nationalism studies, populism and the far right, migration\/diaspora studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Popular themes include language, religion, EU integration\/exit, security, energy politics, parties and elections, youth, media, political violence and civil society.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disciplines represented include political science, history, anthropology, sociology, international studies, security studies, area studies, economics, geography, literature, and other fields of the humanities and social sciences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prospective applicants can get a sense of the large thematic scope of ASN Convention papers and presentations by looking at the&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:https:\/\/bit.ly\/46Jscjh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2025 Convention Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applying to the Convention&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To submit a proposal, fill out a&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:https:\/\/bit.ly\/4q0vGpn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fact Sheet<\/a>&nbsp;online, download the relevant form below and send it as an attachment to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:darel@uottawa.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">darel@uottawa.ca<\/a>&nbsp;AND <a href=\"mailto:asnconvention26@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asnconvention26@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paper Proposal&nbsp;<br>Panel Proposal<br>Roundtable Proposal<br>Book Panel Proposal<br>Documentary Film Proposal<br>Discussant Proposal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applying to the Convention: Five Categories&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Accepted individual paper proposals will be included in panels created by the Program Committee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*A panel proposal is comprised of up to five panelists whose presentations are based on written papers, as well as a chair and a discussant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*A roundtable proposal includes four presentations not based on written papers and generally addresses ongoing events (such as a recent election or protest) or issues pertaining to research methods and challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022A book panel proposal is based on a monograph published in 2025 or early 2026.
