Key Points <\/p>\n\n\n\n *The ASN World Convention was launched in 1996 will be celebrating its 30th anniversary edition on May 28-30, 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n *The Convention is welcoming five different types of proposals: Individual Paper Proposal, Panel Proposal, Book Panel Proposal, Roundtable Proposal, Film Proposal. Paper and panel proposals are based on written papers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n *The Convention has eight regional and three thematic sections (Nationalism, Populism, Migration), as well as a special focus on Russian War in Ukraine* <\/p>\n\n\n\n *Registration fees will be waived for discussants, unless they are making a presentation on a different panel (through an individual proposal, panel proposal, or roundtable proposal). <\/p>\n\n\n\n *All presentations at the Convention are in person only. No presentation will be made on a remote platform, such as Zoom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n *Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposal in January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Convention <\/p>\n\n\n\n Over 150 Panels in 4 global sections: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Nationalism And 8 regional sections: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Balkans ASN Awards<\/p>\n\n\n\n Best Doctoral Papers The Scope of the Convention <\/p>\n\n\n\n The ASN World Convention, which brings together 750+ scholars from 50+ countries annually, welcomes proposals on a wide range of topics related to nationalism, national identity, ethnicity, indigenous and racialized groups, political memory, gender and migration in regional sections of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and cross-regional sections in nationalism studies, populism and the far right, migration\/diaspora studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Popular themes include language, religion, EU integration\/exit, security, energy politics, parties and elections, youth, media, political violence and civil society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Disciplines represented include political science, history, anthropology, sociology, international studies, security studies, area studies, economics, geography, literature, and other fields of the humanities and social sciences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Prospective applicants can get a sense of the large thematic scope of ASN Convention papers and presentations by looking at the 2025 Convention Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Applying to the Convention <\/p>\n\n\n\n To submit a proposal, fill out a Fact Sheet<\/a> online, download the relevant form below and send it as an attachment to darel@uottawa.ca<\/a> AND asnconvention26@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Paper Proposal Applying to the Convention: Five Categories <\/p>\n\n\n\n *Accepted individual paper proposals will be included in panels created by the Program Committee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n *A panel proposal is comprised of up to five panelists whose presentations are based on written papers, as well as a chair and a discussant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n *A roundtable proposal includes four presentations not based on written papers and generally addresses ongoing events (such as a recent election or protest) or issues pertaining to research methods and challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022A book panel proposal is based on a monograph published in 2025 or early 2026. Edited volumes have fewer chances of being accepted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022Film proposals will be considered for documentaries produced between 2024-2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n *A discussant proposal is for applicants who are NOT on other proposals (individual, panel, book, roundtable) but would like to volunteer as discussant on a panel created from individual proposals by the Program Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Applying to the Convention: Guidelines <\/p>\n\n\n\n In a nutshell: applicants may not appear on more than two panel proposals (three if one is a book panel) and may not present more than one paper (whether as the main author or the co-author). <\/p>\n\n\n\n *Applicants can only send ONE paper proposal** <\/p>\n\n\n\n **Participants can only present one paper, whether from an individual proposal, or as part of a panel proposal.
