Trainees will have the unique opportunity to excavate Samshvilde&#8217;s royal medieval citadel (11th-13th cent. AD) and Sioni cemetery. In this course, trainees will learn a variety of methodological skills and gain hands-on experience necessary for becoming a professional archaeologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Training includes:<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Field work<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Post-excavation finds processing<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Seminars on archaeology and Georgian culture<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of this course trainees will have experience in:<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Archaeological and grave context excavation<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Documentation and archiving<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Artefact conservation<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Scientific photography<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Technical drawing<br>&#8211;&nbsp; Basic osteology<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Program dates: July 15th to August 6th, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prerequisites: Because this is course aimed at beginners (undergraduate students, interested laypersons), applicants are <strong>NOT<\/strong> required to have previous experience in archaeology or bioarchaeology.<br>You must be fit to do light physical labor, be proficient in English, and have an interest in archaeology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*We are especially interested in applicants with a background in zooarchaeology or human osteology for a personal project. If you are interested in this please specify on your application form.*<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Program fee: 4,750 GEL (2,330 CAD)<br>This fee includes transport between Tbilisi airport and the dig house, meals and accommodation, 2 day trips (locations to be determined), teaching materials and field equipment, seminars, 2 nights of lodging in Tbilisi and a certification (upon completion of the program)<br>It does NOT include airfare or insurance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Serious candidates are invited to read the information document below in order to get all necessary information our the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please download, fill and send your application form to info &#8220;at&#8221; samshvilde. ge before <strong>February 22nd, 2019<\/strong>.
