Awards will be made for a maximum of $1500\neach. Projects in all fields in the social sciences, humanities, and related\nsciences are eligible. Proposals will be judged on their quality and on the\npotential of the research to strengthen scholarship on the South Caucasus. The\npurpose of the fellowship is to help cover travel and\/or living expenses in the\nSouth Caucasus. During their stay in the South Caucasus, the fellow is expected\nto give an ARISC-sponsored presentation on a subject related to their research.\nThe fellow will acknowledge ARISC in any publication that emerges from the\nresearch carried out during the fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Application requirements: Please send a complete application including the <a href=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ARISC-grad-fellowship-application-form-2019-20-extension.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"application form (opens in a new tab)\">application form<\/a>*, a project statement of not more than 3 pages, work schedule, itemized budget (see sample <a href=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Sample-itemized-budget-GPF.xlsx\">here<\/a>), and curriculum vitae, by <strong>Friday, January 17, 2020<\/strong>, to <a href=\"mailto:info@arisc.org\">info@arisc.org<\/a>, with the subject, \u201cARISC Graduate\/Postdoctoral Fellowship.\u201d Two letters of recommendation must also be submitted directly to ARISC from the recommenders. All information must be received by Friday, January 17, 2020, in order for the applicant to be considered for the fellowship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*This form needs to be downloaded to be completed. You will need to use <a href=\"https:\/\/get.adobe.com\/reader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Adobe Reader (free)  (opens in a new tab)\">Adobe Reader (free) <\/a>to complete the form using the add text comment tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Additional Terms\nand Conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ARISC Graduate\/Postdoctoral Fellowship is limited to <strong>ARISC members<\/strong>: student, individual, or institutional members. If your current institution is not a member (see <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/aboutus\/membership\/institutional-members\/ (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/aboutus\/membership\/institutional-members\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/arisc.org\/aboutus\/membership\/institutional-members\/<\/a>),  you can sign up for an annual student membership for $10, or individual membership for $40. Information on membership is available at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/aboutus\/membership\/ (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/aboutus\/membership\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/arisc.org\/aboutus\/membership\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fellows must complete their fellowships by <em><strong>August 31, 2020<\/strong><\/em>. Any unused portion of the stipend must be returned to ARISC by this date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A report is required to be submitted to ARISC within 30 days of fellowship completion and no later than September 30, 2020.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All applicants must be either graduate students enrolled in accredited degree-granting programs in the U.S. or Canada, or postdoctoral scholars or junior scholars, who have received their PhD since 2015. Students graduating in spring 2020 are eligible to apply.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fellowships will be awarded to <strong>U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Canadian citizens, or Canadian permanent residents only<\/strong>. Proof of citizenship or permanent resident status (i.e. photocopy of passport, etc.) must be shown upon award notification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A portion of the fellowship stipend will be withheld until the recipient submits their Final Report on their fellowship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fellows are expected to make contact with the ARISC country representative in each country or countries where they will be traveling as soon as possible upon arrival. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Given changing travel restrictions and\/or travel warnings to many countries, fellows should contact ARISC prior to purchasing airfare. Fellows are encouraged to use <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en.html (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en.html<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval must be provided, if relevant, upon receipt of fellowship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While ARISC encourages scholars to apply to other federal and private sources in addition to the ARISC graduate\/postdoctoral fellowships, ARISC fellows who receive additional awards must contact ARISC immediately to discuss possible date and stipend adjustments. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ARISC is unable to provide health or other insurance to its fellows. Fellows are required to supply ARISC with proof of health insurance as well as emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains insurance before leaving the United States or Canada. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fellowship recipients are eligible to reapply for a second Graduate\/Postdoctoral Fellowship three years after completion of their most recent award. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ARISC does not advise fellows on tax questions concerning their stipend. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>ARISC does not discriminate on the basis of race,\ncolor, national origin, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, medical\ncondition, ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, or status as a\ncovered veteran.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Selection Process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fellows will be selected by the ARISC grants panel made up of\nscholars with experience conducting regional and trans-regional research.\nPlease note that readers may not be specialists in your field. Applicants will\nbe judged according to the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Merits of the proposal for significance, relevance, and potential contribution to regional and\/or trans-regional scholarly research;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicant qualifications;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research design and methodology;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significance to the applicant&#8217;s field;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significance to needs and interests of host country and ARISC;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feasibility in terms of resources and amount of time allocated to the project;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need for residence in host country to accomplish the project;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficiency in language required to complete research project, if applicable. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Notification<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notification of fellowship status will be made available to each applicant via email in<em><strong>February 2020.<\/strong><\/em> <br> If you would like to receive any updates to this funding call, please email <a href=\"mailto:info@arisc.org\">info@arisc.org<\/a> with your name, contact information, and the subject \u201cUpdates to Grad\/Postdoctoral Fellowships 2019-20.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important Notes\nRegarding Applications <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The applicant is responsible for notifying referees of their request for letters and for ensuring those letters are submitted to ARISC by the deadline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All references must be in English.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants may submit one of the letters from their academic advisor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ARISC\u2019s method of submission is via email. Once an application is submitted it cannot be resubmitted or edited. This also applies to letters of recommendation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notification of fellowship status will be made available to each applicant via email in February 2020.
