This ARISC program,\ngenerously funded by private donors, seeks to foster joint work between\nAmerican and Armenian scholars and institutions dedicated to the proper\ncuration and preservation of heritage materials such as artifacts, sites, and\nmanuscripts. Successful applications will demonstrate substantive\ncollaborations that not only contribute to heritage conservation but also\ndemonstrate efforts to build capacity and enhance local knowledge of current\ntechniques and approaches to heritage management. These grants require active\nparticipation of both American and Armenian principal investigators in all\naspects of the collaborative project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of\npotential projects include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Restoration of threatened archaeological remains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stabilization of historical resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-term protection for archaeological sites or historical\n     monuments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Curation and permanent exhibition of heritage materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cataloging and recording of collections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digitization of heritage materials for wider public access<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhancement of conservation lab facilities <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advanced training for specialists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given the level of\nfunding, these awards can also be used as seed grants to demonstrate the\nfeasibility of a pilot program and\/or in concert with funds from parallel\nsources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grantees will be\nrequired to either give a talk or run a workshop pertinent to the subject of\nthe grant while in Armenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Proposals are\nsubmitted jointly by a team of two or more scholars and\/or specialists. At\nleast one must be a citizen of the U.S. and one a citizen of the Republic of\nArmenia. Proposals must show evidence of endorsement from all relevant\ninstitutions in Armenia in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the\nundertaking. These grants are not intended for primary research. The\nparticipants must demonstrate that the project requires true collaboration\nbetween both PIs, as well as active participation by both PI\u2019s in all aspects\nof the work required to complete the project.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Late, incomplete, or\nineligible applications will not be reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Award Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Awards are usually\nmade for a period of 12 months during which the work described in the proposal\nmust be completed. Extensions will be granted only with the explicit approval\nof ARISC. Award checks will be sent to the US collaborator. Awardees are\nresponsible for tax payments in association with this award, either in the US\nor in Armenia. Grants will typically not exceed $4000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grant recipients are eligible to reapply for a second CHM\ngrant two years after completion of their most recent award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Application\nInformation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants are\nencouraged to contact ARISC in advance of submitting an application in order to\nconfirm eligibility. A complete application will include the following\nmaterials:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/arisc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/CHM-Grant-Application-Form-2019-20-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Application Form (opens in a new tab)\">Application Form<\/a> (This form must be downloaded from arisc.org to be completed.)
