The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) and the General Education (GenEd) program at the American University of Armenia (AUA) are seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor in History starting Fall 2023. Full-time faculty positions at the AUA typically involve teaching three courses per semester, pursuing research activities, and providing university and public service. Key responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Armenian history (broadly construed); World History; World Civilizations; Genocide Studies. Teaching may also include an interdisciplinary first-year course focused on the development of critical thinking and analytical and academic writing skills. Expanding one’s research portfolio is encouraged, while engaging in cross disciplinary synergies among the breadth of expertise at the University. In addition to teaching and research, faculty are expected to contribute to the community and university service for the advancement of the AUA mission and vision.
Required qualifications:
- PhD in History or related fields (or Ph.D. Candidate with an expected graduation date prior to Fall 2023)
- Teaching experience in a university setting;
- Experience in implementing innovative teaching techniques;
- Active record of research and scholarship;
- Experience in an international setting or teaching non-native English speakers is a plus;
- This is a full-time position requiring residence in Armenia.
