During the summer of 2025, the Ararat Plain Southeast Archaeological Project (APSAP) undertook its fourth full season of fieldwork in the Vedi River Valley of Armenia. APSAP is a collaboration between the University of Hong Kong and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Armenia. This season focused on exploring new sites throughout the Valley through test excavations and surface survey, while the team continued the ongoing excavations of the Valley’s main site, the Vedi Fortress. APSAP also continued serving as a laboratory for experimenting with new technologies for improving the efficiency and accuracy of archaeological data collection in the field. Finally, during 2025, APSAP had multiple opportunities for mentorship of Armenian students at many levels, from secondary school to post-graduate education.

Dr. Peter J. Cobb is an assistant professor in the School of Humanities at the University of Hong Kong. He is a field archaeologist and a ceramics specialist, who applies digital humanities methods to improving how archaeological data are collected and shared. Dr. Cobb has fieldwork experience in Armenia, Laos, and Türkiye, and received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania from the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World Program.
