Department or Program: In partnership with Dumbarton Oaks and the Zohrab Center of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, HMML will host an intensive four-week course as an introduction to the Armenian language and paleography in the summer of 2025. This course is intended for doctoral students or recent PhDs who can demonstrate a need for Classical Armenian in their research. Priority is given to students who lack opportunities to study Armenian at their own institutions. The program welcomes international applicants but does not sponsor J visas.

The Armenian Institute’s schedule for the all-new 2024/25 sessions of East and West Armenian language modules, starting from September. The courses run for three terms (Autumn, Winter, and Spring) and run for 10 weeks per term. Courses emphasise conversational skills, alongside reading and writing simple texts, with each session lasting 90 minutes. Classes are conveniently accessible and take place online via Zoom and cater to all levels, from beginners, to intermediate and advanced.

The participants have the opportunity to be brought into close contact with the Armenian language and Armenian culture, with particular attention to its Western variant. The course is based on a 65-hour program with four levels (absolute beginners, intermediate, proficient, advanced/mother tongue). Since 2010 there has also been added the possibility of attending lessons in Eastern Armenian, basically in phonology, orthography, and grammar. The lessons in Eastern Armenian are taught to those participants who already have a basic command of the language.

2024 winter term of the online Western Armenian Studies organized by the Hrant Dink Foundation in collaboration with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is starting on December 23, 2024. The 72 hour studies consist of two-hour sessions, twice a week, spanning 18 weeks.
