The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center (REEEC) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking a new Associate Director and invites applications for this position. The deadline for applications is February 11th, 2026.
The Associate Director serves as the senior full-time staff member of REEEC. The position provides academic leadership for the Center, directs our interdisciplinary BA major, and teaches courses in the REEES curriculum. The Associate Director supervises Center staff, acts as its chief grant and financial officer, and directs advancement initiatives. Together with the Director (a faculty member appointed on a rotating basis), the REEEC Associate Director has overall responsibility for the center’s operations, including program development, coordination with other units in IGI, grants management, and alumni relations and advancement.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a public research university with a land grant mission and a global impact, and is part of the Big Ten Academic Alliance. It is an institutional member of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies, and has a large community of students, staff, and faculty dedicated to the development of that field. Founded in 1959, REEEC combines commitment to this university community with regional and national service to scholarship and the public. It offers interdisciplinary degree programs at the BA and MA level, as well as a dual-degree program (MA / MS LIS) with the University of Illinois School of Information Sciences. REEEC fosters the development of teaching and research about our world region through conferences, lectures, and other programming, and also has active public engagement programs in local schools and libraries. It collaborates with the University Library‘s Slavic Reference Service to host our annual Summer Research Laboratory, which provides researchers with access to our extraordinarily deep print and electronic collections on the region.
Located within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, REEEC is part of the Illinois Global Institute (IGI), the home for area and global studies centers and thematic programs at Illinois.
